EXPRESSIONISM IN THE ARTS
Expressionism began around 1908 as a style of painting, and presented itself as a reaction against realism. As a movement, Expressionism concerned itself with the depiction of psychological realities. For Germany after WWI, many of these realities were unpleasant.
